LinApple is a Linux-based emulator designed to mimic the Apple][ computer. It offers users the ability to run Apple][ software, games, and programs on a Linux operating system.
This is where LinApple comes in. As the name suggests, it is a Linux emulator for the Apple ][, Apple][+, Apple//e, and Enhanced Apple//e computers. After being unable to find a working emulator, the creator of LinApple decided to take it upon themselves to make one that would easily run on a modern Linux desktop.
LinApple emulates almost everything that AppleWin does, with the exception of a few things. It currently requires a debugger, which is something that earlier versions of AppleWin had as well. Additionally, while mock Phasor support has been added, real Phasor support is still missing.
Despite these limitations, LinApple has proven to be a solid emulator for fans of the Apple ][ on Linux. The most recent release adds new features such as the ability to open compressed .gz files in read-only mode, quicker load-save states, and support for the Mockingboard.
