LingNUX is a French-Russian dictionary designed for French students learning the language.
To install the dictionaries, you can get several different theme-based dictionaries, including several free ones, on the website. For individuals who have an official ABBYY Lingvo version running under Windows, there is the possibility to convert LSD files provided on a CD to DSL files by utilizing the Windows executable provided by ABBYY known as DSLComp.exe (only in this case). To proceed with this conversion, you must research the word combination “DSLComp.exe” and “Lingvo” and follow the guidelines within your version. A basic knowledge of the Russian language is strongly recommended.
LingNUX offers at least two DSL files, one FR-RU and one RU-FR, meaning that it is usable. Before using it, several steps must be taken. First, for each file, launch “linguindex filename.dsl” For the process to be successful, no warning or error messages must occur, and you must see “100 percent scanned” at the process’s end.
To install LingNUX in root mode, you can move the DSL files and their associated IDX files created by linguindex into “/usr/share/lingnux/” (since you created the LingNUX directory in /usr/share/). Please note that it is possible to install these files into other directories of your choice, but the example provided is according to this location.
Configure LingNUX by editing “diclist.txt” and modifying the file access paths in the specified order. Please do not remove the comment line at the beginning of the file: “Enter_filenames_as_follows:Universal-Technical-Medical-Law” and do not suppress any other lines. In case of unavailability of dictionaries, replace the path line by “NONE”; however, at least one universal Russian-French and one universal French-Russian dictionary are required. Once you have edited “diclist.txt,” save it.
LingNUX is now ready to be launched. You can do this under terminal or from a shortcut on your desktop. If the application closes immediately upon start-up, launch it from the terminal to see any displayed error messages.
In this release, LingNUX has fixed display bugs.
