The AVM FRITZ!Box Fon software provides real-time notifications for incoming calls.
Installation is relatively simple. For those using an RPM based system (tested with openSUSE), download and install the RPM package. Alternatively, download the source tarball and build listen2fritz on your own. To do so, make sure to download and install the development packages of OpenLDAP and CURL before proceeding with the following steps: extract the tarball, run './configure' and 'make', and then 'make install' with root privileges.
Once installed, customize the configuration file located at /etc/listen2fritz.conf to tailor the software to your specific environment. The comments in the file provide information on how to change the settings.
To start using listen2fritz, run it in the foreground by entering 'listen2fritz --foreground' in the command line. The software will display log messages both on your shell session and in the system log file. If there are any issues, modify the configuration file as needed.
Listen2fritz comes with a system rc file located at /etc/init.d/listen2fritz as well as a convenience link at /usr/sbin/rclisten2fritz. Check your runlevel editor and enable listen2fritz in your desired runlevel (on SUSE system, 'chkconfig listen2fritz on' should be sufficient).
