MACTS is a traffic shaping software that categorizes traffic using the MAC addresses linked with its users.
The configuration file of MACTS is simple and easy to understand, requiring little knowledge of networking or traffic control mechanisms. Therefore, the setup process for MACTS should be a breeze.
The components of MACTS include:
- macts: This component clears the current traffic classifiers and sets up new ones based on the settings provided in /etc/macts/macts.conf. It also stores temporary data in /etc/macts/handles.cache.
- macts-stats: This component displays real-time statistics, such as data rate, packet rate, and backlog per machine, on the terminal. Alternatively, when provided with the -r flag, it stores the statistics in round robin databases for each machine located in /etc/macts/stats/.
- macts-chart: This is a command-line interface chart generator that reads data from RRDs stored in /etc/macts/stats/.
- macts-chart.cgi: This component is a CGI wrapper for macts-chart designed to be used with a web server.
To install MACTS, users must first create the necessary directories, including /etc/macts and /etc/macts/stats, and create /etc/macts/macts.conf. After that, users need to move macts, macts-stats, and macts-chart to /usr/local/bin/ and consider installing RRD tools and the Perl RRD tool interface. Additionally, users can add a line to root's cron for macts-stats and move macts-chart.cgi to the web server's CGI directory.
There are no significant features added to this release; only an updated installation guide included.
