The Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit assists in creating advanced medical imaging software.
One of the key features of MITK is being able to have multiple, consistent views on the same data. This means that all views will display the same data, making it easier to coordinate positions, orientations, and colors throughout the program. MITK also allows for interactions that create and modify data, as well as complex interactions with multiple states for active contours. Additionally, undo and redo of interactions is possible, along with the organization of data objects in a tree at run-time.
Another important feature of MITK is the ability to assign additional properties of arbitrary type to data objects. MITK also offers visualization and interaction with 3D+t data, and although it is primarily a toolkit, it provides some support on the application-level for the structured combination of modules.
In the latest release, MITK has added slice-by-slice segmentation with interpolation, rotatable MPR planes, and a GUI for basic RAW image import. MITK now has always-available modules for standard views and selection of slices and a level-of-detail mechanism for volume rendering. Support for rendering multiple overlapping/semi-transparent image-slices in 3D has also been added, along with numerous bug fixes. Overall, MITK is a powerful tool for the development of advanced medical imaging software.
