This module contributes to GNOME C++ bindings.
However, for building tarball releases, an installation of mm-common may not be required unless configured to use maintainer-mode. For installation, the process is relatively simple.
First, navigate to the directory containing the source code and run the `./configure` command to configure the package for your system. If using `csh` on an old version of System V, it may be necessary to type `sh ./configure` instead to prevent `csh` from trying to execute `configure` itself.
Running `configure` may take some time, as it checks for various features. Once configured, type `make` to compile the package. Optionally, running `make check` will execute any self-tests that come with the package.
When ready to install, type `make install` to install the programs and associated data files and documentation. If wanting to remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory, type `make clean`. To also remove the files that `configure` created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean`. Lastly, there is a `make maintainer-clean` target intended mainly for the package's developers. If used, other programs may need to be installed to regenerate files that came with the distribution.
Overall, mm-common is a reliable and essential dependency for building GNOME C++ binding libraries from the gnome.org version control repository.
