Mumbles is a GNOME desktop notification system powered by plugins and built on top of DBus. The system is customizable and modular, allowing for personalized and extensible notification management.
Mumbles has been tested extensively on modern versions of the Gnome Desktop, including Ubuntu (Dapper through Feisty). Although it is designed to work on a standard Ubuntu installation, it is recommended that users utilize a compositing window manager for optimal results.
The project includes application plugins for popular software such as Pidgin, Firefox, and Thunderbird, as well as support for Growl network notifications and themes. Additionally, the software has the following requirements: Python 2.4, PyGTK 2.8, Python Glade, Python Cairo, Python Dbus, and Python Setuptools.
Users can install Mumbles by downloading and installing a deb package, then launching it with "mumbles." Alternatively, they may extract the tar.gz packaged file to a local directory and run the program through the terminal by typing "cd src/ ./mumbles."
The newest release of the software includes several improvements and additions, such as new plugins, Growl network notification support, themes, and other miscellaneous updates.
