New Wave is a GTK theme that transforms your desktop into a modern and stylish interface. It enhances the appearance of your system by applying a contemporary look and feel, providing a refreshing update to your computer experience.
But what is GNOME and how does it fit in? GNOME is an international project aimed at creating a complete desktop environment using free software. This includes development frameworks for software, selecting desktop applications, as well as working on programs that manage launching applications, handling files, and managing windows and tasks. It's part of the GNU Project and can be used with several Unix-like operating systems, notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris. The GNOME project emphasizes simplicity, usability, and making everything work as it should.
Installing New Wave is easy. Simply extract the archive and drag and drop the file new-wave(xxx) into your workspace, where (xxx) is the version number, such as 050. The package also includes emerald themes (the latest being 0.3.4), settings for metacity and compiz-fusion, and a file to address a Firefox bug. To fix this, move userChrome.css file to your profile's directory. The path for Firefox should be ~/.mozilla/firefox/(xxxx).default/chrome/ with (xxxx) being different on each installation. For Thunderbird, the procedure should be similar.
Finally, note that New Wave is still a work in progress. The theme will evolve over time as the developers polish their creation. If you like simple and modern design in your workspace, give New Wave a try.
