NewPKI is a database-driven PKI designed using OpenSSL low-level API for secure data handling. All data is managed through a centralized database.
The latest release comes with several improvements and bug fixes. The configure script has greatly improved, and PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE or PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE_NP is present. A bug where the certificate was not sent to the end-user on a PKCS#10 request has been corrected. Users can now receive a warning when their certificate is about to expire, thanks to the new feature by Erik Anderson. The current release also includes a File publication module for convenience.
Other improvements in this version include the possibility to restore a CA cert from a PKCS#12, view certificate and CRL extensions from the CA GUI, and access display filters for the profiles on the RA Admin GUI. There's also an "Object/Code Sign" extensions template and a change in RA GUI inactivity timeout from 5 minutes to 1 hour.
The release also includes an upgrade in OpenSSL to version 0.9.7g (WIN32), automatic switch of LDAP Protocol when the server doesn't support the current Protocol version, and handling of CSR's extensions and certificate suspension.
NewPKI has a smarter way of handling memory allocation, fixed dead-lock and race conditions, and has an improved SQL performance. The software is user-friendly, and users can import PKCS#12 and enjoy 64-bit compilation. Additionally, there are many other bug fixes for an improved experience.
Overall, NewPKI is an excellent PKI software with numerous features, flexibility, and reliability, ideal for businesses that require an excellent PKI system.
