Niche.sh, a Java and C-written shell program, is an experimental project.
The C component of the shell has been compiled for Linux, Windows, Solaris, Mac OSX, and FreeBSD. However, it's important to keep in mind that the results may vary depending on the exact version of your operating system. All required files for all platforms are included in a single zip file.
In order to use Niche.sh, you'll need the Java Runtime 1.5 or later installed on your device. The software also features several improvements in the latest release, including the addition of "source host" and "source user" options to the defaults dialog which enables SSH connections to be routed via an intermediate machine.
The update also includes a new icon added to the main window and the use of Java 1.6 for all platforms except Mac OS X. Additionally, the Windows platform now features the launch4j launcher. If you're interested in a unique and experimental shell, Niche.sh certainly offers a compelling option to try out.
