Normal/Displacement Map Generator software assists in producing Geometry Normal Maps within a few clicks.
Until recently, there was only one tool that could perform this action, ORB, which was limited to Windows operating systems. As a result, this tool provides developers with a better alternative that's cross-platform friendly.
With Normal/Displacement Map Generator, developers can not only generate geometry normal maps but can also add detail normal maps that enhance the normal maps generated by plugins such as The GIMP. This tool can be repeated multiple times to obtain better quality.
In addition to generating normal maps, this software also creates displacement or height maps, which can be used for offset mapping and rendering low-resolution meshes with much more detail by creating vertices and faces dynamically. This process is done using a displacement map, which can also be used as a height map for terrain generators.
Normal/Displacement Map Generator requires FOX 1.2.9 and OpenGL to function. It's capable of using edge creasing, resulting in more significant improvements in generated normal maps. However, this feature led to a change in the .dim format, rendering old .dim files incompatible with the new version.
This release also includes fixes for bugs in the normal map generation process that caused scan lines to be processed twice. TGA support has been replaced with PNG support, and support for UV splitting in the Blender script has also been added.
