Okteta is a software successor to KHexEdit made for KDE 4.x. It offers similar features to KHexEdit, allowing users to edit binary files.
Okteta offers a classic two-column view, with one column for numeric values, and the other displaying assigned characters. The editor allows you to modify data in either column, as well as offering a range of editing capabilities, including a selection of tools. These tools include a table that lists decodings into common simple data types, a listing of all possible bytes with their corresponding character and value equivalents, an info view with a statistical overview, and a filter tool.
One of Okteta's strongest features is its ability to endlessly undo or redo modifications to the data loaded. Additionally, with its modular design, it's quick and easy to extend the software through plugins. It's worth noting that Okteta has been developed in the playground/utils module in the KDE repository, and is currently under review to move to the kdeutils module.
To enjoy the full functionality of Okteta, you'll need KDE 4.x. The latest release brings fixes to cursor movement, ensuring that any potential problems are quickly resolved. Overall, this hex editor offers a powerful, efficient solution for raw data editing.
