The Pidgin Plug-in for OCS/LCS enables Pidgin users to communicate with users on Microsoft Office Communication Server or Live Communication Server. This software provides easy integration for Pidgin clients and allows for seamless messaging across different platforms.
LCS has support similar to the SIP/Simple protocol, but with non-standard specifications classical for an MSN product. As an extended version of SIP, this can pose compatibility issues. To address this, the Pidgin Plug-in for LCS called SIPE (SIP Exchange) was implemented.
The original SIP/Simple code required changes, which resulted in the creation of the SIPE plug-in. The developer utilized the implementation developed by Thomas Butter, who had already solved the NTLM authentication problem for LCS. The SIPE plug-in is designed to cater to corporate subnets, intranets, and other enterprise environments where LCS is widely used.
The decision to add support for LCS was motivated by the need to cater to the demands of the job while using Linux. Overall, Pidgin-sipe is a reliable software that provides SIP/Simple implementation that is compatible with LCS.
