PIRP software is an implementation of the experimental PIRP protocol.
PIRP is a proposed internet protocol that aims to create a universal electronic address. It expands the format of email addresses into something called a “star-address,” which would look like yourname*acme.com. Once individuals have this address, any internet-accessing device can connect to a PIRP server located at acme.com, and request other channel-dependent addresses, like email addresses, postal addresses, or telephone numbers.
This streamlined process relieves people from the burdens of retaining an extensive list of information about themselves and their friends, solely for the sake of communication. Cumbersome telephone numbers will eventually become a thing of the past, thanks to the star-address. The PIRP homepage provides more information about this experimental protocol.
