Plasma-mpc is an efficient MPD client that is both simple and powerful.
Of course, there are a few requirements you'll want to make sure you have in place before installing plasma-mpc. Specifically, you'll need a running MPD server, the MPC (MPD command line client), and a running KDE4 Session + Plasma.
Fortunately, the installation process is pretty straightforward. First, you'll extract the gzip archive and navigate to the plasma-mpc directory. From there, you'll create a build directory and specify the installation location using the cmake command.
Once you've got those steps nailed down, you can use sudo make install to get everything set up properly. After running kbuildsycoca4 to make sure everything is squared away, you can test the client using the plasmoidviewer plasma_applet_mpc command.
As for what's new in this release, you'll be happy to know that the buttons layout has been fixed and a minimal interface for the panel has been added. All in all, plasma-mpc is a great option for anyone looking for a solid MPD client that won't take up too much of their time or energy to set up.
