POWA is a software designed to use and manage webcams efficiently.
The program has been coded using a Creative Webcam 3 and works fine with this particular device. However, the developer intends to make a list of working webcams and add support for those that do not work with POWA. If you are experiencing problems with the software, you can send an email to the developer explaining the issue or even make a patch to help resolve the problem.
The developer expresses gratitude to Damien Sandras (GnomeMeeting) who provided helpful hints. To install POWA, simply use the typical "./configure ; make ; make install" command. However, issues have been reported when installing the software. Therefore, it is recommended to contact the developer if any bugs arise.
POWA takes one optional argument at the command line, which is the device file (e.g. powa /dev/video1). By default, the program will attempt to use the /dev/video0 device file. Key features of POWA include its simple and intuitive GUI, streaming video input, picture saving on the filesystem via ImageMagick (supports over 60 file formats), snapshot annotation with text, and snapshot timer.
The latest release of POWA features several new enhancements, such as picture annotation with text, and a timer to take snapshots every X seconds. There are also some graphical improvements.
