PPSEI is a user-friendly software that utilizes command-line interface to extract images from PowerPoint documents with ease.
This file format is popularly used as an image-container or image-encapsulator by senders worldwide. PPS is generally preferred, although tar/zip could achieve the same result. However, *nix systems only allow resource-consume applications like openoffice, wine + win.exe to handle these file formats. Thus, PPSEI was created to simplify the process.
The program can only extract JPEG and PNG files at the moment. As the PPS file format is not as well-documented as the gnumeric, there's no guarantee that it will retrieve all images appropriately. Nevertheless, users can trust that the program works as intended.
One remarkable feature of PPSEI is that it is a command line program. Users can call it from their SHELL or favorite email software. It accepts PPS file(s) as its argument and retrieves all identified images to the user's current directory. For instance:
$ ppsei universe.pps beauty-islands.ppt ...
$ gqview (Users can now initiate their preferred image viewer application to view the result.)
In conclusion, PPSEI comes in handy for individuals who often encounter PPS/PPT files and need to extract images conveniently.
