ProjectCenter is a fully-integrated development environment that is officially endorsed by GNUstep. It is designed to provide developers with all the tools they need to build robust and scalable software. The platform offers a range of features, including syntax highlighting, code completion, debugging, and more. ProjectCenter's intuitive interface makes it easy for developers at all levels to create high-quality applications.
Over a decade ago, NeXT Computer Inc. brought developers two excellent tools - Project Builder and Interface Builder - which simplified and hastened application development, elevating NeXT ahead of other operating system vendors. ProjectCenter is compatible with these, and it manages project types like 'Application', 'Bundle', 'Library', 'Tool', and 'Aggregate.' Plus, ProjectCenter automatically creates the project makefiles and aids in editing, project compilation, package building, and debugging.
GNUstep, based on and compatible with the OpenStep specification developed by NeXT (now Apple Computer Inc.), is a framework that provides cross-platform development capabilities like generalized visual interface design and a cohesive user interface. Consequently, ProjectCenter's support for project creation and inspection, basic Makefile generation, and the ability to create graphical applications using ProjectCenter and Gorm in conjunction. It's a work in progress and is evolving.
Moreover, GNUstep is not a window manager. Instead, it offers a whole load of things, primarily a framework, libraries, tools, and applications for software development. To use it, you must run applications and tools and benefit from its services, all compatible with OpenStep specification. Simply GNUstep, the GNUstep Live CD, and Project Backbone are examples of GNUstep systems.
In the future, ProjectCenter will contain several capabilities, such as project management comprising versioning control, automatic makefile creation, file management, etc.; source code editing facilities with a built-in editor in a future release; debugging facilities with a built-in debugger in a new version as soon as possible; documentation automation help with automatic documentation generation using autogsdoc or other tools in a later stage, and a UML-based case tool.
