Pymailheaders is a lightweight GTK+ application that presents email headers in your mailbox.
Pymailheaders supports IMAP4, POP3 protocols, and XML feeds, making it an all-in-one solution for users who manage multiple accounts. To install Pymailheaders, Python 2.4 (or above), PyGTK 2.6 (or above), and GTK 2.6 (or above) are the primary requirements. For *ubuntu users, installing the python-gtk2 package automatically fulfills these dependencies. Once installed, users can run the program with appropriate arguments without needing to install it.
On the first run, users need to provide their mandatory options, such as server type, address, username, and password (if required), from the command line. After the successful launch of Pymailheaders, users can omit all arguments, except for '-c,' and set up their preferences using the GTK+ settings dialog accessible by right-clicking on Pymailheaders' window. The program can be run in the background by adding a '&' mark at the end of the command.
Using Pymailheaders with different protocols is effortless. For IMAP4 mailboxes, the server type must be set to imap, and users need to provide the server URL, username, and password. Encrypted connections require setting the SSL option with the '-e' argument. The same goes for POP3 mailbox, with the only difference being the server type set to pop. Users can also check for XML feeds in the formats of RSS 1.0, 2.0, and Atom 0.3, 1.0, by setting the server type to feed.
The updated version of Pymailheaders ensures bug fixes, including the long timeout wait bug and the infinite recursion when the network is not available bug. Overall, Pymailheaders is an exceptional software for managing multiple email accounts and feeds, with its portable, efficient and user-friendly design.
