Improved applet for GNOME that facilitates quitting.
Installation is easy since this is just a prototype. No gconf or local settings are changed, and your system settings will remain untouched. The project operates as a graphical prototype, and no real shut down or quit actions are taken.
The first alpha version of the project was released on November 23, 2008. To install Quit Applet Plus, you need to add the following line to your sources list for the "hardy" distribution: "deb hardy main." After that, reload the source lists by typing "sudo apt-get update," and then install the "quit-applet-plus" package by typing "sudo apt-get install quit-applet-plus." Finally, right-click on the gnome panel and choose "Add to Panel." You can search for "Quit Applet Plus" and add it to the panel.
There are some known problems with the project. If you cannot find the applet in the applet dialog, just perform "killall gnome-panel," and the panel will be automatically restarted. Alternatively, you can log out and log in again. For Intrepid (Ubuntu 8.10) users, Synaptic may not show the "quit-applet-plus" package after reloading sources. In this case, just use "apt-get install" as described above.
