rdiffWeb provides compatibility with two backends, including configuration files and MySQL, allowing for versatile operation.
If you prefer a simple setup without the need for MySQL, the configuration-file-based backend is perfect for you. This mode is straightforward and easy to use. You only need to add repositories manually, and there is only a single user login available.
If you need more advanced features, such as support for multiple users, automatic repository spidering, and additional security options, the MySQL backend is recommended. This configuration is a bit more complicated to set up, but it provides many benefits.
With rdiffWeb's MySQL backend, multiple users are supported. Each user has a "root" directory, and all rdiff-backup repositories that the user sees are shown relative to this directory. For administrators, there is a web-based administration page that enables them to add, delete, and edit users, as well as crawl the users' directories for rdiff-backup repositories.
Recently released updates have improved the functionality of rdiffWeb. The latest version allows for repositories to be found from the command line, and it fixes compatibility issues with Python 2.4. All in all, rdiffWeb is a reliable and customizable backup solution with many features to suit your needs.
