Rebot3.pl software automates the renaming of MP3 files with the associated track name, artist, album, and numbering, making it easier to manage the files obtained from audio CDs.
Rebot3.pl works best in combination with cdda2wav(1), but it is also useful in combination with other rippers like cdparanoia(1). When run without any option specified on the command line, the program will look in the current directory for the file audio.cddb which is written by cdda2wav(1). From this file, the program attempts to extract the disc ID which is used to identify the corresponding CDDB entry.
The program also looks in the current directory for MP3 files containing a one or two digit number in the filename (not in the extension). It then simply renames all found MP3 files using a default pattern. Optionally, an ID3 tag can be attached to the MP3 files. This program can retrieve the disc information from a CDDB server over the internet or a local CDDB, created by cd (and other) players like xmcd(1), kscd, gcd, or xmms. Overall, Rebot3.pl can be a very useful tool for managing your MP3 collection and making it easy to identify specific tracks and albums.
