The Ridentd server application is designed for individuals who require access to servers that demand ident and are extremely cautious about security.
The application assures the same identity during a TCP session using a randomly initialized modulus of the local port. For users who require additional security measures, Ridentd can be started a few times a day from their cron in order to reseed both the random set of dictionary words and the port modulo. It is recommended to use the 'SILENT' option when using Ridentd in the cron.
Users of the Linux platform can now consider this software release-ready, although it is still in beta for any other *nix platform. The software is entirely dependent on the availability of the 'strings' and 'ps' binaries, as well as the presence of at least one ispell dictionary file.
In the latest release, the software addresses a serious locally exploitable symlink bug. This bug has now been resolved, preventing random local files from being overwritten with the process ID of the newly started daemon.
