rtorstat is an uncomplicated Python-based application that creates a web page that displays status updates on the rTorrent BitTorrent client.
This script can operate in two modes: it can run through cron at predefined intervals, where it reads the saved rtorrent session data, creates a summary about the loaded torrent files' status, and prints the HTML code to stdout. This file can then be redirected to a file and made publicly available by a web server. Alternatively, it can run as a CGI script, which allows for dynamic generation of the HTML page on-demand. This method helps to conserve system resources by parsing the session data only when a user runs the CGI script through the web browser.
Unlike other web-based rTorrent frontends, rtorstat is not meant to support remote rTorrent administration. It is simply a status page generator that provides a convenient web interface.
To run rtorstat, you'll need Python and rTorrent (configured to save session data). Additionally, the file "bencode.py" must be included in the rtorstat distribution package (which it is).
In this latest release, we've fixed a bug that caused issues when running the script as a standalone application due to a bad function name. We've also made some code improvements by changing some variable names to better describe their values. Additionally, we've included a THANKS file.
Overall, rtorstat is a straightforward and easy-to-use solution for getting a quick overview of your torrent list from any remote location.
