Samba TNG is an SMB fileserver that specifically focuses on NT RPC and PDC features.
However, it is important to note that Samba TNG is currently in a beta stage. If you require advanced file/print serving capabilities, it may be best to opt for Samba classic. In the latest release of Samba TNG, the developers strongly recommend using a working iconv library.
Iconv is included with some C libraries (e.g. GNU libc) and shipped with most Linux systems as well as some Unix systems. If your system does not have an iconv library or only has a limited one (such as Solaris), it is highly recommended to install the GNU libiconv library.
While Samba-TNG can still be compiled and run with its own iconv stubs, this feature may not handle international character sets very well, if at all. Overall, Samba TNG is a useful SMB server for those using Unix-like operating systems with a focus on MSRPC interoperatability.
