Scam-Archiver is a software that archives all emails passing through a mail server to a designated mailbox.
Before getting started with the installation, it's recommended to read the INSTALL and README files for more information. In terms of prerequisites, you'll need to have sendmail version 8.12.x or higher installed, with MILTER support enabled. Additionally, you should have the milter library and development kit installed.
To build Scam-Archiver, you'll need to extract the tarball, change to the directory where the source code was extracted, and rename the Makefile depending on your operating system. Afterward, simply type "make" to compile Scam-Archiver.
To install Scam-Archiver, copy the file created above to the appropriate location (e.g. /usr/local/sbin), generate a new sendmail configuration with the necessary additional settings, create a user to run the milter, and create the /var/spool/scam directory. Make sure the user you created has read-write access to that directory.
When using Scam-Archiver, start the milter as a daemon and restart sendmail if you've generated a new sendmail configuration during installation. To shut down Scam-Archiver, use the command "kill -USR1 `cat /var/spool/scam/scam-archiver.pid`".
Finally, the configuration file used is /etc/mail/scam.conf. You can define the email address where all mail is archived by entering "[email protected]". Overall, Scam-Archiver is a useful tool for those looking to archive their email with ease.
