Bring the nostalgia of Windows 7 to your GNOME desktop with this software. Enjoy the familiar look and feel of Windows 7 on a modern operating system.
The developer acknowledges that they did not create the MidnightBlackPlastic theme, and that credit for artwork goes to its creator, "Wes." However, the developer added shortcut icons, and a window selector was included since iconizing isn't possible on Ubuntu 8.04 and under. This feature aims to keep the taskbar neat and clean like in Windows. For the theme to look its best, the gnome panel should be set to a size of 38 pixels or greater. Anything below this size would unstack your date and time. The sidebar is courtesy of screenlets, and the developer uses Emerald and Compiz Fusion to get various desktop effects, including the Aero theme.
The developer encourages users to improve on the theme, with the caveat of giving credit where due, i.e. to the creator of midnightblackplastic theme and to the developer themselves.
Installing the Sevenplastic grey theme is simple. Right-click on the desktop and select Change Desktop Background. Click on the first tab: Theme. Drag and drop the theme's archive in the Appearance Preferences window. If everything goes well, you will receive a confirmation message and can activate the theme by clicking on it.
GNOME, the desktop environment in which Sevenplastic grey theme runs, is an international effort that aims to create a complete desktop entirely from free software. It includes software development frameworks, application software, and programs that manage application launching, file handling, window, and task management. GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, especially Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris. The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, but this acronym is now deprecated. GNOME puts heavy emphasis on simplicity, usability, and making things "just work."
