slimp3slave is a CLI software that serves as a SLIMP3 client. It enables users to control their SLIMP3 server by sending commands via the command-line interface.
The program was developed on Linux and can be classified as a quick-and-evil hack type of programming. To use slimp3slave, one will need an MP3 decoder that can decode data on standard input. By default, slimp3slave uses mpg123, but using splay or madplay is recommended since mpg123 and mpg321 tend to struggle with partial frames generated by the server.
Paul Warren originally wrote slimp3slave, which was extended by Rob Funk to include an intuitive curses-based UI enabling users to view what's on the LCD display and control the player through the client interface using the keyboard.
To use slimp3slave, users can type make, then run slimp3slave and optionally specify the server IP address: "./slimp3slave -s 1.2.3.4". The software also provides users instructions on more options available on the help command: "./slimp3slave -h".
There are special keys available in the slimp3slave interface, such as the power and play buttons, rewind, forward and search buttons, and even sleep and debug mode toggle options. The program is also set up to enable users to quit the program easily as they desire: just click the q key to exit.
Overall, slimp3slave is a wonderful choice for a command-line software implementing a SLIMP3 client and has proven to be an excellent addition to most users' servers.
