Snatcher is a search engine software that facilitates full-text search for English or Japanese text. It offers a user-friendly interface making it easy to search for required content without any hassle.
The search options offered by Snatcher are extensive, offering both keyword search with a boolean information retrieval model and relational document search with a vector space model. This makes it an extremely versatile tool that can cater to almost any data retrieval need you might have.
It's worth noting that while Snatcher was originally designed for Japanese users, it can process both English and Japanese documents. However, documents and log messages are only in Japanese.
Installation is straightforward, and all you really need to get started is Perl, rsync, ChaSen, and gdbm. Once you have those in place, simply run './configure' followed by 'make', and then 'make install' as the superuser. The default installation location is /usr/local/bin, but you can adjust this by editing the src/Makefile. Similarly, man pages are installed in /usr/local/man/man1 by default, but you can adjust this by editing doc/Makefile.
Lastly, if you need to use --encoder with snap-register – for example, for compressed repositories – you'll need to patch rsync with rsync.patch and rebuild it. That being said, if this doesn't apply to your use case, you can skip this step altogether.
