SNMPTT is a trap handler software used alongside NET-SNMP/UCD-SNMP snmptrapd, coded in Perl for secure SNMP operations.
This software is especially useful for network devices such as network switches, routers, remote access servers, printers, and operating systems like Unix and Windows NT. These devices can send notifications to an SNMP manager running on a network management station, in the form of SNMP Traps or SNMP Inform messages. The notifications can include crucial information about link failures, access violations, power outages, paper jams, hard drive failures, and more.
The SNMP MIB file available from the vendor defines the notifications supported by each device, with TRAP-TYPE (SMIv1) or NOTIFICATION-TYPE (SMIv2) definitions that specify the variables passed to the management station when a particular event occurs.
The latest release of SNMP Trap Translator comes with several improvements, including support for proper date/time data types, statistics logging, and custom columns for databases. Additionally, users can now change formatting for unknown_trap_exec, and support has been added to MATCH for bitwise AND. The software also features a new log file for system messages, allowing users without access to syslog to log information to a text file. The update also includes several bug fixes, such as support for Net-SNMP 5.4 traphandle, a daemon mode PID file, REGEX captures, MATCH modifiers, and more.
Overall, SNMP Trap Translator is a reliable and efficient SNMP trap manager that offers excellent customization and flexibility for network administrators.
