Source Explorer is a Vim plugin that functions as a source code explorer using tags, similar to the context window in Source Insight.
If you're familiar with browsing projects in C/C++/Java using Source Insight, you'll find browsing definitions with Source Explorer just as easy. In Normal mode, simply place your cursor on a function name, and its definition will appear on the Source Explorer window. Double-clicking on the window will then show the definition and its context in the editor window.
Multi-definitions listing and jumping work similarly to Source Insight, and in srcexpl v1.2 and above, the function key mapping allows for keyboard exploration of source code in both GUI and cterm VIM. Source Explorer works well with Taglist and MiniBufExpl, making (G)Vim look like Source Insight across Unix/Windows/Mac environments.
Regarding Vim, it is a text editor initially released in 1991 for the Amiga computer. Vim was designed as an extended version of the vi editor, with additional features to aid in the editing of program source code. While cross-platform, Vim is most popular on Unix-like operating systems and is free and open source software.
To use Source Explorer, add the script to the plugin directory of Vim and specify settings in your .vimrc file. What's new in the latest release includes a prompt line for multi-definition searching, a bug fix for VIM folding, and a guide on how Source Explorer works with Taglist and MiniBufExplorer. Vim includes a built-in tutorial for beginners and a help facility to query and navigate through commands and features.
