SourceMage is a GNU/Linux distribution that operates on a Sorcery metaphor by 'casting' and 'dispelling' programs. The distribution is source-based and focuses on customization.
As a development ISO, the distribution may contain bugs and glitches. However, the developers are actively seeking help from the community to identify and squash these issues. I was encouraged to download, burn, and install the ISO on a spare partition, extra computer, or even overwrite a friend's Windows partition. Alternately, using VMWare or bochs is a viable option as well.
If any glitches are found, the user is asked to report them in bugzilla. The developers strongly emphasize that no bug is too small or too large; all input is appreciated in order to improve the quality of the distribution.
The latest release of the Source Mage distribution is an updated version based on the 0.9.6 ISOs. While there are no changes to the installer scripts, the set of packages/spells has been updated to the 0.7 Stable Grimoire, which includes an updated version of the Linux kernel. I would recommend giving Source Mage a try and contributing to its ongoing development.
