Spamresponder is a basic and innovative spam filter that utilizes DNS validation and challenge/response to effectively block unwanted emails.
One of the key features of Spamresponder is its simplicity. The software will systematically scan all mail messages located in /var/mail/$USER. It will then search for specific trusted strings that are unique to the header and body parts of an email. If a message lacks a trusted string, Spamresponder will automatically delete it and send an automated response to the sender.
The reply sent by Spamresponder contains a trusted string that the recipient can use to confirm their identity. The recipient will only need to reply to the message containing the trusted string to bypass the spam filter. Additionally, the MailFrom-address of an email containing a trusted string will also become a trusted string itself.
Spamresponder has a few software requirements, including FileHandle::Unget (required) and Mail::Mbox::MessageParser (Default branch) (required). In the latest release, the software has also implemented mbox-locking, further improving its functionality.
Overall, Spamresponder is a worthy software tool that performs its functions effectively and efficiently. It is also easy to use, making it an excellent choice for users looking for a reliable spam filter.
