StreamCruncher is software that acts as an event processor.
With the rise of RFID, the idea of Complex Event Processing (CEP) and Event Stream Processing (ESP) has become commercially viable, and StreamCruncher is one of the few startups that have turned that idea into a commercial-grade software. The project has adopted the contributions of various scholars, such as Prof. Luckham's and Prof. Widom's, in the field of CEP and ESP.
CEP and ESP provide building blocks for users to build an intelligent system with active feedback, allowing the continual slicing and dicing of event streams to infer relevant information before it becomes stale. The system requires a convergence of various technologies such as SQL, Rule Engines, and Data Warehouses to create a domain-specific language to encode such rules, pump events into the system, and channel the output stream to do something useful.
StreamCruncher v0.03 is a significant release as it has now become an open-source project, licensed under the LGPL. The main advantage of open-source software is that it can be tailored to the specific needs of the user, making it more flexible and dynamic. Users can also contribute to the project by reporting issues, making suggestions, or providing feedback on the software. Overall, StreamCruncher is a reliable and flexible software that can be used in various applications, including Automated Trading Platforms and Warning Sign systems.
