Tactical Rogue is a strategy game with rogue-like elements. Players engage in tactical battles while exploring procedurally generated dungeons.
The game runs semi-realtime, and time progresses until a player's wait-time reaches zero, allowing them to move or act, after which the wait-time resets based on the character's traits and attributes. Tactical Rogue is developed under Linux using SDL and C++. The game stores sprites and animations in .png format and sound effects and music in .ogg (vorbis) format. All files - be it code, music or sprites, are licensed in a license compatible with the GPL, most likely under the GPL.
The game uses OpenGL, and the newest release features a new website, added classes, artwork such as lakes and new characters, and the move of many hardcoded values into XML files. The game also includes terrains, which add to its immersive gameplay. Overall, Tactical Rogue is a must-try for gamers interested in the fusion of strategy and adventure.
