This software provides permanent opt-out cookies that prevent targeted advertising from 37 advertising networks.
One of the most significant benefits of TACO is that it sets permanent, generic, non-personally identifiable opt-out cookies in your browser. This approach is different from other opt-out solutions that only provide temporary protection. With TACO, you don't have to worry about cookies expiring or advertisers finding new ways to collect data on you.
TACO features 40+ cookies (some advertising networks require multiple cookies for different domain names), and they are all completely persistent. This means that clearing your browser's cookies won't delete the installed TACO cookies. However, if you decide that you want to delete these cookies, you'll need to remove the add-on first and then delete all installed cookies from the preferences window.
The tool is based on the Advertising Cookie Opt Out Plugin by Valentin Gheorghita, a Google Engineer. The company released this tool under the Apache 2 open-source license, and the author's modifications are also under the same license. To see a list of the 37 advertising networks that TACO applies to, you can visit the developer's site.
It's important to note that this add-on is not affiliated with or approved by the Network Advertising Initiative, Google, or anyone else other than the author. Nevertheless, TACO is an excellent tool that can give you peace of mind while you surf the web, knowing that your online privacy is protected.
