TeXfig utilizes Latex to format text in xfig files. This software is a simple solution for easy text-setting.
The installation process for TeXfig is simple. You need to extract the tarball and place the texfig script somewhere in your $PATH. Additionally, make sure to have Latex, gv, Xfig, and fig2dev installed, with fig2dev being a part of the transfig package in many distributions.
Using TeXfig is just as simple. Just type "texfig ourfile.fig" and as you save your file (using the shortcut Alt-s) in xfig, latex will preview the produced ourfile.eps in gv. This means that every time you update your xfig file, latex is used for the typesetting and you can see your changes on the fly in gv (assuming you've enabled the watch file option). If an error in latex code occurs, you can simply press q in the xterm.
TeXfig also includes an example directory and provides the script eps2png. When you're done using TeXfig, you can simply close the gv or xfig window to terminate it. Overall, TeXfig simplifies the process of producing figures with complicated text elements or formulas, making it a powerful tool for anyone interested in producing high-quality figures.
