The software, Ur-Quan Masters, is a rendition of the popular space game StarControl II from 3DO. It is a port version that allows users to enjoy the classic gameplay on modern systems.
In terms of system requirements, players will need to have SDL 1.2, SDL_image 1.2, and the SDL_mixer CVS version (with ogg support) installed on their devices. Additionally, all Linux binaries will require OpenGL to be installed, although the source can be compiled without it if necessary.
That being said, there are some exciting new features to be found in the latest release of The Ur-Quan Masters. Players can enjoy the addition of netplay, meaning that they can now engage in Super Melee battles over the internet. Key configuration has also been improved and is now entirely in-game. Furthermore, UQM now compiles and runs on 64-bit systems.
Other welcome changes include the proper functioning of the Quit button when used during the introduction sequence, as well as fixes to text and conversation logic. The setup menu now reads all its text from the content, making translation much easier. Finally, the MOD player for PC-style music can now be linked against an external version of libmikmod. Overall, various code cleanups and memory optimizations have been implemented, with the full list of changes available in the changelog.
