TwoLAME is a high-performance encoder for MPEG Audio Layer 2 (MP2) that offers optimised processing capabilities.
This encoder is packed with features, including being fully thread-safe, having both static and shared library support (libtwolame), and having an API that is very similar to LAME's. The frontend also supports a wider range of input files thanks to its use of libsndfile. To ensure that TwoLAME is easy to use and build, it has an automake/libtool/pkgconfig-based build system.
In the latest release of TwoLAME, there have been some important bug fixes. The first of these fixes address the STDIN support issue that was present in the twolame frontend. Additionally, an energy levels bug that would affect mono audio has been resolved. Finally, the forthcoming gcc-4.3 has now been repaired.
Overall, TwoLAME is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to encode audio files with precision and at a high rate of compression. The thread-safe library and ease of use make it the perfect tool for any programmer.
