Vcs-load-dirs automates and streamlines software loading into version control systems for improved efficiency.
As a Free Software project that's licensed under the GNU General Public License, you can download vcs-load-dirs for free, modify it, and even contribute to it. It's written in pure Python and has been tested on various versions of Linux and BSD. The tool was created as a response to Subversion's svn_load_dirs, which was exclusive to Subversion and couldn't work with other VCSs.
There are some fantastic features to vcs-load-dirs worth highlighting. For instance, it allows for automatic add/delete commands to be issued when a given import directory represents only adds or only deletes from the tree in version control. When an import directory represents both adds or deletes, it recognizes that there may be files that have been renamed. It enters an interactive mode that shows deleted and added files and allows you to match them up if you believe any have been renamed. If you don't want your VCS to track renames, you can skip this step. vcs-load-dirs will inform your VCS about any renames, adds, and deletes.
The latest release has added support for Mercurial, and some minor fixes have been made. A brand new website has also been launched. Overall, vcs-load-dirs is an exceptional tool for anyone who wants to make the process of loading software into version control systems much more manageable.
