VDR MP3/MPlayer Extensions offer MP3 playback in Video Disk Recorder while also acting as a MPlayer frontend, enhancing the user's media experience.
One of the best things about the VDR MP3/MPlayer Extensions is that it supports different audio codecs such as libmad, libsndfile, and libvorbis. If you need to play MPEG-1/2/2.5 with layers 1/2/3, the libmad codec is a great choice. Meanwhile, libsndfile supports MS WAV/A-law/u-law; Apple/SGI AIFF/AIFC; Sun/NeXT AU/SND; and Amiga IFF/8SVX/16SV, among others. If you prefer Vorbis/Ogg format, then you'll be happy to know that libvorbis is also supported.
The VDR MP3/MPlayer Extensions are distributed as a dual-plugin together with the MPlayer plugin. To be able to use this software, you need to have a decent CPU, preferably with a speed of at least 1GHz. For most formats, MPlayer does on-the-fly transcoding to MPEG1, which requires a good CPU to work. However, you can still make it work with slower CPUs by tuning down the transcoding quality.
To use the VDR MP3/MPlayer Extensions, you need to have the following requirements: DVB Driver Project, MAD 0.14.2b, Video Disk Recorder, CDfs 0.5c, libsndfile, and MPlayer. With these requirements and your DVB card, you can have an excellent audio and video playback experience with the VDR MP3/MPlayer Extensions.
