VStar PhotoAlbum is a web-based photo album tailored for novice photographers using digital cameras.
To use VStar PhotoAlbum, you'll need a web server with PHP 5.0 or above language support, as well as GD library support compiled into PHP. The program itself is easy to install. Just create a folder for it within your website directory (for example, "PhotoAlbum"), and copy the program contents into it. Then, create three subfolders under the new folder for your original photos, thumbnails, and temporary resized photos. Make sure to give your web server read-only permissions for the "photos" folder and read-write permissions for the "thumbnails" and "temp" folders. Finally, edit the "settings.php" file to match your preferred settings, and you're good to go!
While VStar PhotoAlbum supports four image formats (JPEG, GIF, BMP, and PNG), it is limited to whatever formats the GD library can handle. All other formats will be ignored. If you have TIFF images from your camera, you may need to convert them to one of the supported formats or look for an alternative solution.
This release of VStar PhotoAlbum includes numerous improvements and bug fixes. The consistency checking method has been improved to reduce thumbnail regeneration time. Info files now contain detailed information about the sizes of each picture/thumbnail, allowing you to regenerate only selected thumbnails within a folder. Old info files will be automatically converted into a new format. CSS styling options have also been added, including an example CSS file and free Bitstream Vera TTF Fonts. Finally, a bug with lock file generation for nonexistent thumbnail folders has been fixed, and a few typos in the language definition file have been corrected.
Overall, VStar PhotoAlbum is a simple and effective way for amateur photographers to display their digital photographs on the web. It's user-friendly, easy to install, and comes with new features and improvements with each release. If you're looking for an uncomplicated solution for displaying your photos, VStar PhotoAlbum is worth a try.
