WHAX is a standalone penetration testing tool that has evolved from WHoppix, now available as a live CD for testing purposes.
Every tool included in WHAX has been compiled to WHAX modules, which allows developers to update their livecd/usb stick with greater ease. For instance, if a new version of a tool, such as Metasploit Framework, has been released, users simply need to download the updated module, making it easy to update their WHAX software.
Modularity makes it easy for anyone to create their own modules, even Windows users. This means that users can add their favourite tools, or even a new wallpaper, to their WHAX software. Additionally, the new software interface is incredibly user friendly.
This latest version of WHAX includes a number of amazing features. First, the Prism54 firmware has been added. Also, wireless scripts, including kismet autoconfiguration (www.cr0.net:8040), are now in full functionality. Additionally, a beta fluxbox menu has been introduced, and the software has been downgraded to aircrack 2.2b6. The Firefox version has also been updated to 1.05 due to recent vulnerabilities. Other updates include RSS feeds defaults, Firefox Plugin additions, and fixes to the Snort startup scripts.
