This software is a combination of a database system and a wiki web application, offering both functionalities in one solution.
With a conventional database system, freezing the database model too early can result in problems when the requirements of an organization change. Since the designer of a conventional database system cannot foretell all future demands of the system, Wikidbase becomes a highly relevant solution. A conventional database system optimizes information storage and retrieval but lacks the easy modification capabilities of a wiki web application.
A wiki web application is a website for editing webpage contents that enables non-technical users to add images, alter styling, etc. Storing highly flexible, unstructured data with lots of information is simply doable with a wiki web application. However, unlike a structured database, structured data retrieval through string searches is impossible, like a list of phone numbers or email addresses for all staff members.
Wikidbase is capable of storing and organizing all sorts of information such as fully relational data, plain old information pages, files, images, media, semi-structured data, shared calendar type information, and much more. Released under the GPL licence, Wikidbase is an open-source application and - will be free. Wikidbase is more than just a database - it's a rich groupware application that businesses globally will come to appreciate.
