WMAlbum is a software that acts as a dock applet and swiftly presents album artwork during song playback on XMMS.
One of WMAlbum's notable features is the handy circular menu for play/skip/etc. This feature is especially beneficial and makes controlling XMMS a breeze. Moreover, if you're using WindowMaker window manager, go ahead and replace wmxmms with WMAlbum. However, note that you can also use it with other window managers like openbox and blackbox.
Even though WMAlbum is an excellent applet, it is, unfortunately, underdocumented. Nonetheless, once you get it up and running, it's quite simple to use. Just place .jpg images of your album covers next to the mp3 files, and the applet will take care of displaying them whenever XMMS switches songs.
Controlling XMMS is also a breeze with WMAlbum. You can use the circular menu or mouse-wheel to adjust the volume. Double-click to see the album cover image in full-size, and a tooltip will appear with the artist and song title if you linger. It's effortless to understand and use.
It's important to note that WMAlbum does not come with any album cover images, nor does it have scripts for automatically fetching them. It also doesn't use id3 tags, ensuring your mp3's aren't bloated. If you want to build WMAlbum, you'll need gdk-pixbuf and xmms. You'll also require gimp-perl to rebuild the graphic circular menu, but this is unnecessary for an ordinary build. Finally, instructions for Debian users are available in the readme file.
Overall, I found WMAlbum to be an excellent addition for anyone using XMMS. It's intuitive, easy to use, and makes controlling the app a breeze. Highly recommended!
