WMApm is an APM dockapp designed for laptops that offers advanced power management features.
The software also offers system messages that scroll on the bottom of the window, making it easy to monitor your laptop's power status. Additionally, when the battery is charging, the AC plug flashes, while a green LED inside the big button flashes red if the battery level is critically low. Users with broken APM BIOS implementations will appreciate the added features to disable certain functions found in version 1.1, which can be easily configured through #defines.
Installation is a breeze, simply run "make," copy wmapm to a useful location and then execute it by typing "/wmapm &" in the terminal. In cases where the software may not work as expected, users can edit wmapm.c and uncomment the appropriate line(s) to specify the appropriate BIOS behavior. This ensures that the software caters to unique requirements for each computer.
It should be noted that all *_APM features are untested and bugs may occur. However, this should not be an issue for most users with standard non-broken APM implementations. In the future, the developer plans on creating a version of wmapm for Linux ACPI but only after it has been tested and works effectively on their Toshiba Satellite 2545xcdt laptop. No patches or updates will be accepted prior to that event.
Overall, WMApm is an excellent dock application that offers important information about the laptop's power status well beyond what is provided in the BIOS, improving the user experience and protecting your laptop from power issues.
