Word2x converts Word documents into text format.
One unique feature of Word2x is that it includes an object that is distributed only pre-compiled on Linux systems due to the restrictions on the actual information contained within Word documents. However, this file can be excluded from the GPL and is not vital to the conversion process. Instead, it simply offers better performance, making the software run more smoothly.
Currently, Word2x supports three different output formats, including plain text, LaTeX, and HTML. The program converts Word documents to a central format, and output modules write the desired target format. This allows you to quickly and easily convert your documents to the format you need.
Word2x has been designed to work smoothly on a variety of platforms, including RS6000 running AIX (Unix), cygwin32 (win 32 Microsoft platforms), DEC Alpha AXP under OSF/1 (Unix), IBM SP2 (Unix), Linux (Unix), SunOS (Unix), gcc on solaris (unix), FreeBSD (Unix), and SGI (Unix, some hacking required). So no matter what type of computer you are using, you can rest assured that Word2x will work seamlessly for you.
