"Sage is a cross-platform software that utilizes SDL to obtain function pointers and provides OpenGL extensions library." (24 words)
The ultimate goal of the Sage library is to foster an independent community that specializes in the development and maintenance of unique roleplaying-oriented game worlds. They achieve this by granting access to a rich collection of game rules and audio/visual media, providing a wide selection of server and client implementations, and instituting a standard network communication protocol.
As a project, WorldForge focuses on creating tools and technologies that enable the easy creation of graphically rich games of cooperation and socialization. The aim of the organization is to blur the line between player and maker and create a positive community environment for current and future free game developers. They also have an endgame in sight - the creation of a game named Belchfire, set in a well-developed gameworld called Dural, and using the Circe RPG rule system.
The primary strategy of WorldForge is to collaborate closely with players, authors, and artists to discover what they want to achieve, and then provide them with the necessary tools to reach their goals. The WorldForge project was born out of the desire for better internet roleplaying games. Multi-User Dungeons have been successful in their early years, but ultimately, games like Ultima Online have failed to create advanced virtual worlds of merit.
Avinash Gupta and a group of a dozen or so passionate gamers sit at the foundation of WorldForge's vision. Together, they share a collective vision for what a truly fantastic gaming experience should be.
