xBaK, a fan-made game, recreates the Sierra computer RPG.
The xBaK project is essentially a game engine that uses the original data files that were included with the original game by Sierra Online. It's important to note that you'll need to have your own copy of the game since the required data files are NOT distributed with xBaK. However, the good news is that the xBaK engine is licensed under the GPL.
The xBaK engine is being developed on linux using SDL and, in the near future, OpenGL. Keep in mind that the project is still under development and currently in the pre-alpha stage, so a playable game is not yet available. However, several tools have been created that allow you to examine the contents of the data files, and a small demo has been released that shows the intro and the startup option screen.
Overall, if you're a fan of Betrayal at Krondor and you're looking for a new way to experience this classic RPG, then xBaK is definitely worth checking out. Its impressive engine and attention to detail make it a must-try for any die-hard fan of the original game.
