XDirectFB is a software solution that allows for rootless X Server functionality using DirectFB windows as the main X11 toplevel windows.
Window movements can be initiated by the applications or the window manager, and graphical movement is carried out by DirectFB for optimum hardware acceleration. Since overlapping toplevel windows don't cause expose events, such as redrawing of the window contents, as they are DirectFB windows, they have their surface, commonly referred to as a backing store.
XDirectFB is mainly based on XDarwin and some KDrive code, with the following additional features being included in the latest update:
• Added X Selection DFB Clipboard support.
• Added DPMS support.
• Added option "-displayLayer".
• Initial DGA implementation with DGA keyboard and DGA mouse support.
Overall, the XDirectFB project is an impressive software that provides users with enhanced functionality and flexibility, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to increase their productivity and computing experience.
